This job covered a multi-section corrugated metal roof and the gutters running along its eaves at a residential property in Keaau. The property sits on a semi-rural lot with a sloped hillside behind it, lush tropical plantings throughout the yard, and mature vegetation along the perimeter. The roof itself had a complex layout with multiple hip junctions and valley intersections across several connected sections. That geometry creates more low-drainage zones where organic material accumulates compared to a simple single-pitch roof. The scope of work included:
The before condition was visible and consistent across the full roof.
The mid-wash photo shows the contrast clearly: one roof section already washed back to its base color sits directly alongside an unwashed section with heavy dark algae streaking still running the full length of the corrugation valleys. The difference in those two panels, photographed at the same moment, shows exactly what was on the surface before work began across the whole roof.
Broken down by area:
The gutters were a separate problem entirely. The before photo shows the gutter channel packed with dense black decomposed organic material and standing water sitting on top of the buildup. A gutter in this condition cannot drain, which is what causes the rust staining and accelerated algae growth at the eave edge directly below it.
Roof Washing
The corrugated metal panels were pressure washed across all sections of the roof, working ridge to eave on each face. The valley and hip junction areas received the same treatment, with attention to the low-drainage zones where buildup was heaviest. The multiple connected roof sections required working across each face systematically to ensure no panel runs were skipped. The mid-wash photo confirms the approach was working: the washed sections came back to the base panel color immediately, with the algae fully removed from the corrugation valleys.
Gutter Cleaning
The gutters were cleared of the decomposed debris and flushed. The volume of material visible in the before photo required manual removal of the sludge before the channel could be flushed effectively. Once the debris was out, the gutter was flushed to verify it was draining through the downspouts without restriction. The after photo shows the gutter channel empty and the eave edge of the roof panels clean, with the rust-brown corrugation tip staining cleared as part of the eave wash.
After the wash and gutter cleaning, both surfaces came out clean across the full scope of the job:
If your Keaau property has a multi-section metal roof with valley and hip junctions, pay attention to those areas when you inspect the surface. They accumulate faster than the main panel runs because water moves slower through them. And if the gutters are full, the eave edge of the roof is going to show it first through rust staining and accelerated algae growth at the corrugation tips. Cleaning both in the same visit addresses both problems at once.
